Day 2: Thursday
Breakfast with Stephan. Then got settled into new Hotel room, which is more like a bungalow overlooking the pool. Took surfing lessons with Mauricio, a Costa Rican Pro Surfer who was really cool. Accompanied by his friend Freddie. So essentially we got a private 2 on 2 lesson. We surfed South Jaco beach since the waves aren't as deadly as North Jaco and Playa Hermosa to the south. I was a bit petrified of the waves at first but got over the fear. We both caught a wave on our first attempt. What an awesome feeling. The water is 70+ degrees warm. Like a heated pool. It's high tide and there's just barrels and barrels of glassy waves. Near the end of our lesson it starts raining. But it's a beautiful rain that makes you want to do anything but go back inside. So we surf in it.
We clean up and have dinner at a seafood restaurant. Mmmm. Take pictures with waiter whom we've named "Enrique" for sporting the trademark mole. Made friends with Ticos from the Carribean side of the country who were staying in the same hotel. Had a few drinks with them at a restaurant hang-out and then Nacho Daddy's we went. Got our groove on to slightly outdated Top 40 American Party music. Danced with our new friends. Learned that of the girls (18 years old) was working. Sometime in the night she decided she wanted to hang out with her friends instead of working so we went about town trying to look for the rest of her crew.
